Pearls of Wisdom is one of the most meaningful traditions of CPO Heritage Week. This gathering brings together retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officers and the newly selected Chief Petty Officers (CPO Selectees), along with their sponsors, in an evening of mentorship, connection, and tradition.

During this event, Selectees have the opportunity to meet and network with those who have come before them—retired Chiefs who shaped the Mess through decades of service and leadership. In return, retired Chiefs impart “charges” and lessons learned, filling the vessels of knowledge of those who will soon join their ranks. These words of wisdom are passed down not just as advice, but as living connections to the values, resilience, and spirit that define what it means to be a Chief Petty Officer.

More than a meet-and-greet, Pearls of Wisdom is a symbolic bridge between generations. It ensures that the heritage, traditions, and legacy of the United States Navy Chief Petty Officer community are carried forward with strength, humility, and pride. This event is a cornerstone of Heritage Week, reminding all who attend that being a Chief is not simply a rank, but a way of life anchored in service, leadership, and unity.
